You will find this happening from time to time...and with shell crackers also. Sometimes when they are on the bed there may be a 3 or 4 day window where they will not hit anything. I run into it every year....it can be very frustrating.

Today the beds were full of males, but couldn't get but a few to bite. The big females were just off the beds full off eggs. I was catching the females but turned them loose. How do you get the males guarding the beds to bite,?
Thanks for any advice.

move on . You can get a few as they try to nudge the bait from the bed . Try a clear float, fluorocarbon line but truthfully move on is what I do .
I have experienced this in the past also. I could hit the shell cracker in the head with a worm and nothing. They would dart off the bed and then come back after a few minutes but no bites. Drop a worm in the bed and drag it past there nose and nothing. Sometimes they get the lock jaw.
Thanks guys for the advice. We did move to a different set of beds and they killed it. It was difficult to move when you could see them swimming all around the beds.

I have seen that before and sometimes its a strange thing , not sure why they get that way at times but I have seen bass do it as well and I am betting crappie do the same ....frustrating to say the least and have no answer for how to make em bite myself ...I suppose the are distracted with the reproduction venue and have just one thing on them lil fish minds maybe ?![]()
