Red is my #1 color. It imitates bloodworms, which is a natural food source.

I realized that after seeing this. In winter I made up tungsten bead chironomid fly patterns to fish as a dropper off my regular tungsten ice jigs.
They worked well they live in the mudd and are bright deep red and a swimmers.
I have caught panfish through the ice that there whole mouth was full of red chironomids.

Now I need to see which red powder paint to go with.

Like other have said, black, brown, olive, also red.

I always thought the red/orange simulated the colors of a spawning bluegill and irritated them enough to strike.

I do much better with the natural colors than the bright neons for most panfish.

You forgot the part about holding your tongue to the left if wind is coming over right shoulder.
All are sounding like great color combinations. And with sound explanations. I study the history of and have tied flies for some 20 years so fully agree with the info being provided!

I still sit her wondering how come there are "plastics" that are coming out in 150 different colors a year? LOL
