    Default Bluegill beds

Ok guys I was wondering if anyone ever has created any bluegill beds or habitat, I was wondering because I would like to take my wife fishing and be able to pull up on a spot and catch big red ear and bluegill off it. I have a few spots but they are few and far between. I have thought about driving stakes but only being 2-3 foot long in about 4-5 foot of water. does anyone else have any ideas or know what works

In my experience, bluegill seem more interested in what the lake bottom is made of and the depth of the water, rather than structure for their bedding areas. I seem to find them on a sandy or mucky bottom with gravel underneath. They "fan" off the sand/mud and expose the grave. Might be different in other parts.

Look for where feeder creeks come into your lake, where they silt up and create bars, they will bed up on the edges of these bars, the shellcracker will bed just a little deeper than the bream, but in the same areas.

MAKE A RECTANGLE BOX FROM 3 INCH PVC PIPE , SET IN SHALLOW (SHADY IF POSSIBLE ) WATER . STAKE IT DOWN AND FILL WITH A LAYER OF PEA-GRAVEL THEN A THIN LAYER OF WASHED GRAVEL . We made ours 24 ft. . x 4 ft. .

First off remember that adding ANY structure to non private water is illegal.

Bluegill typically spawn in the same areas every year. Easy to find with a depth finder with side scan.

have done several in different depths . 3-4 ft usually . Drill holes( about a ft. Apart so the frame want float and stake it down also . Thet do this on our state lakes , or at least 30 yrs. Ago . They work well .have made some with sand and pea gravel as well . They love the sand ! AND YES THEY ARE ALL ON PRIVATE LAKES AS I WOULD NOT BUILD THIS FOR OTHERS USE !
