    Default State limits

I have always wondered why the limits on panfish are so high? Do these high limits have affects on future populations?

Our limit here in NC is 30 a day , set by those "in the know" , I trust them to safe guard our resources............
    AN interesting article.........
Bluegill are an important species when it comes to fisheries management. Bluegill provide an excellent forage for bass due to their ability to reproduce at incredible rates. During one summer, a female bluegill can spawn three times releasing 2,300 to 81,100 eggs per spawn. This rate of reproduction is necessary to maintain adequate bass forage in a balanced bluegill/largemouth bass fishery and is why bluegill are preferred over other sunfish species.

    Rest of the article........ Bluegill

That's the key: they have lots of babies. Bass, trout, etc. only spawn once per year.

I believe Bluegill are prolific spawners and do so multiple times a year.

they are also easily transferred by birds seems like. I have seen sunfish in ponds that have never been stocked with anything.
