    Default Ft. Gibson Report 3/3/09

Fished up the river and caught about 10-12 crappie! Only three keepers. Hopefully I will be able to get back up there this weekend after a few days of warm weather. They should start to stack up. I do love this time of year.

I hope the water level cooperates this spring. Couple years ago we pulled a lot of crappie out of Toppers from the bank around the docks. Took my 5yo son fishing tonight around Billy Creek. Didn't catch a crappie but they should turn on before long.

I checked the water temp while I was there it was 52 in main channel and 56 up in cove by mills pond the water is warming up good about another week and the bite will be on. P.S. I still have not got a bite on this electric chicken jig.

They are catching them up in spring creek in about 4ft of water. I was busy fishing in 10 ft. When I finally threw in the towel I found a guy coming down the creek that had a 5 gallon bucket full of slabs. Gave him the few I had. Water temp was 58. I tried a couple of places, Earbob and Big hollow. Water temp was around 50 with no fish being caught.

I fished from the bank around the docks in Toppers today. Caught 2 bass but no crappie. Mrs. Heffley was cleaning a few she had caught the last couple days. Her dock is the first one the crappie start bitting in my opinion so it shouldn't be long.

I fished in Spring Creek early last week and caught about 12 but only 3 keepers. I didn't make it up there this weekend but glad to here there was bigger fish bitting.

I drive a blue crew crab z71 with an osu tag in front. I too have pulled a lot of fish of the Rice's walkway over the years. They even redone the walkway this year. I need to thank them for not putting up a locked gate at the entry like some have. I can't wait until the crappie turn on there. Toppers is definately one of my favorite spots.
