That sounds like my wife's response when I talked about buying a boat and finders. She told me her grandad just took a pole, tackle box and 5 gallon bucket and filled it up every time.

I put the Spot Light Scan transducer under my TM when Lowrance was giving them away as part of their Gen 3 promotion. I like being able to have down scan under the TM. The main drawback for me is that it has to be used with cable steering, so it cannot be used with a trolling motor that has wireless steering.

I'm with you on the scanning under the tm, I'm much better at reading scanning than sonar. To me it's like why drives junker when you own a Cadillac!!!

Yes. That's why I put it up there. However, I would also like to be able to use the anchor mode on the TM which isn't available with cable TMs. Maybe Lowrance will be able to figure out how to give us both options.

The way Spotlight scan works lowrance just needs to set it up were the front of the scanner is always in line with the front of the trolling motor. Put the scanner on an independent motor that spins inside the case of the scanner would be one way to solve the issue. I would be fine with just having a 360 scan going on all the time around the boat.

On my way out the door from buying a Spotlight a big-time bass fisherman said it's a pile of junk. Wish I'd have listened to him. It's in my junk pile now. A Lowrance "specialist" on my boat couldn't even get it to operate.
