    Default Reminder - Regulation changes

Just thought I would post a reminder of a couple of new Oklahoma reg changes to keep everyone legal. I hear the Wardens are enforcing these. I used to like to clean fish on the boat but will no longer.

Fish Cleaning: It is unlawful to possess a gamefish, hybrid striped bass or flat-head catfish that has been filleted or has
its head or tail removed while actively engaging in fishing.

Tailwaters: Each angler must keep their fish separate, marked with their name and license number, when fishing in tailwaters,
which is the first 1,000 feet below dam, except at Wister, where each angler must keep their fish separate, marked with their
name and license number when fishing below the dam down to the power-line at the confluence of the old and new river
    channels.

A friend of mine found out about that by a warden two weeks ago at Wister. He had to turn his fish loose for not marking his basket with his info.

Going to give you some info I got from our local game warden to clarify the fish cleaning law since it is as clear as mud:

    A) You can clean fish in your boat IF you are DONE fishing for the (Day). In other words, you can have (NO Baited Poles) including (Baited JUG LINES) in the water while cleaning the fish.

    B) All fishing of any kind while you are cleaning the fish is Unlawful. Hope this saves everybody some grief down the road.

I'm not going to leave it up to the Warden that happens to check me. I'll do it after I pull the boat out. I use the little "make your own dog tags" for when I need to check an animal during hunting season. I put my name, address and lifetime hunt/fish license number on the tag. I guess I need to put one on my fish basket. I don't usually fish from a boat in tailwaters but I guess you would have to mark your livewell.

He explained the key words in the regulation are actively engaged in fishing, which includes jug lining. I don't clean my fish in the boat either but I know a lot of people that do.

I'd rather clean mine at home. I hate seeing all the carcasses all over the banks around the ramps. It stinks.

I always return the carcasses to the water if I'm still at the lake. Otherwise, at home they go into the garage freezer.

I've only got 4 tomato plants, George. Got lots of Candy onions but they give them a stronger flavor.
