I am a stainless guy too, but... I do not think you will see a noticeable difference between a SS and an Aluminum prop with a 75hp motor. Once you cross the 150hp threshold, there is a difference. I am talking about hole shot and top end speed. The aluminum is forgiving on you lower unit if you hit a rock or stump. The SS is non forgiving. The aluminum will nick up, but, better your prop than your lower unit. You can buy 3 Aluminum props for the price of one good SS. It would be aluminum for me in this situation. Composite for a spare as Ranger09 said. I have been dealing with Power Tech props in La. Their customer service is second to non. You give them all the info, they plug it into the computer for the correct pitch. They will let you return a SS prop for a difference pitch for a small fee if they are wrong about the pitch. They exchanged mine 3x, until i was happy. great company to do business with. Remember, your tach is your friend when deciding what pitch to get. If the pitch is wrong, you will never get the top performance from your boat or motor.

I really hate to say this ........... but I agree with fishn_a_ledge on this one "LOL" I have a small 40hp Mercury and the SS was about 3x more and as stated I could buy 3 aluminum. I have nicked (destroyed) one by backing into a rock (back into is never good) but did not hurt the lower unit. I have 1000hrs on motor and have hit a lot of stumps, etc. without much damage to the prop. But it has always happened a low rpms.

I run an aluminum on my in board and have a stainless as well. . . I get maybe 2 mph more with the stainless and really the only thing it does for me is not porpoise When trimmed up. I would just an aluminum which maybe ninety dollars.

Thanks for all the opinions guys. I knew from the git-go that the composite wasn't going to stay as the primary prop. I like the suggestion and reasoning behind getting an aluminum prop. Thats the way this boat will go. Wanted to get it out today for a trial run, but the rain and lightning kept it at the house.

Got her out on the water today. 20 mph winds so there was some rolling waves on Kaw. The boat cut through them like a champ.
The only thing that was odd was that the boat as soon as it got on plane, tilted to the right instead of running level. My wife was with me, and moved to the center seat, but that didn't really help. The steering wheel was pulling pretty good to the left when trimmed out, so I'm needing to play with the trim tab on the motor to neutralize that.
Is that why its not running level? Anybody ran on to this before?
