Default Fort Gibson - Best Anchor

Looking to purchase a set of anchors for my 28' pontoon, I only fish on Fort Gibson lake. Do any of you have suggestion on type of anchors, I mainly plan to be anchoring up in open water around structure for vertical fishing, I do not know what type of bottom FG will be. My toon has a hard top so it's like a sail in the wind.

your boat will catch a lot of wind. It is not about weight, its about design. The large fluke anchors work. Check on west marine website. look at the off shore stuff. when looking at the chart for boat/anchor size, go at least 1 size larger than it says. The key to making the anchor hold is length of rope. You need 6' of rope for every foot of water depth. When you get this combo, you can fish in any wind. My anchor weighs 17 lbs and will hold me in up to 20mph wind. I have another one scaled up that weighs 24 lbs and will hold me, ah when, I should not longer be there. If they hold my tin can, they will hold yours. I will get a picture of it tonight.

I got on amazon and bought a 600' role of 1/2" 3 strand poly rope. I carry 400' of continuous rope. an anchor on each end. most of the time, you only use about 300'. you can lock that boat down and fish a single twig if you would like. I prefer not to anchor, but sometimes it is the best choice for the time or type of fishing you are doing.

The best anchor for pontoon boats is a Box Anchor - regardless of the lake bottom. Check with Overton's as they sometimes run a special on them.

Or if you are handy with cutting and welding some steel, here's a link to a set of plans to build your own. I have had this on my "to do" list for quite some time but other projects have had higher priority. The only problem with the DIY version is it does not fold flat for storage under a seat like the store-bought version does.

My boat won't hold that much mono, let alone anchor rope! Haha

I have box anchors i would give somebody! I like to use mine to drag on bottom instead of a drift sock. slows me down slightly more than a drift sock!
