    Default An etiquette question

Yesterday while fishing the Crowder area, on two different occasions, The same boat pulled up in front of me and started fishing the same bank I was fishing. This boat took a position about 20 yards in front of me each time which created a situation where I had to fish behind it down the entire length of the bank. My question is, "What is the proper distance to give to another boat when fishing the same bank?" Is it considered bad manners to pull up in front of another boat which is already present, or is there some spacing which is considered ok. Any comments would be appreciated.

I wouldn't pull in front, to pull a bank within 500 yards, of someone, but that's just me. However it wouldn't bother me if you pulled up 100 yards ahead of me . Keep in mind etiquette has never been my strong side!

Sounds rude to me. I wouldn't get in front of someone fishing unless there is some pretty good distance between us.

Seeing how I don't care what others think of me, and that person obviously didn't care about you or your fishing, I would have had several choice words for him, sped my boat up, and would have traded some paint with him. Anyone who's seen my boat knows I could care less what it looks like. Shooting a few new rivets in it every now and then is standard. Seriously though, if it's a safety issue, just call the lake patrol. I'll never get used to the morons that try to creat as much wake as possible. There's a guy in a yellow Gambler up here on Oologah that will create a big wake enough times until he gets you to move off his so called "spot". He'll not try that crap with me. Certain things in life are worth forgiving someone. I don't see it happening on the water.

After stirring the pot really good, I'd tell him my name was Crappie Ciller.

They were just plain wrong, especially since they did it twice. They should've either fished behind you or asked you where you were planning on fishing so they would'nt get in your way. The distance thing depends on how crowded the area is, but the 100 yards Redge mentioned would be the minimum. Some people are just inconsiderate... I've been bass fishing before and had someone cast across the bow of my boat as they pulled in front of me.

Reaper I think it's only fair that Crappie Ciller gets blamed for any bad behavior displayed on the lake since he is out of the country and unable to defend himself.

Y'all shouldn't pick on an absentee foreigner. Besides, CC might immigrate back to America some day, at least that's the rumor.

Years ago in Montana, there were two big guys in a boat, and they would intentionally come in and run into the bank lines. They did it only once with my buddy Big Al. He whistled a five ounce weight right between them. They said they were coming in to kick his #####. When he stood up and they saw his size, they left and never again swerved in trying to cut our lines.

I believe this is karma in action dadgummit. When I was a kid, fishing sneak in ponds all the time I was the only one of our group who never ran when we saw the owner coming. I always figured they would go harder on me if I ran and then got caught so I hung around to shake bass off the stringer and face the music. When the farmer inevitably asked for my name I always said Dennis Sherwood sir. Dennis was usually one of the runners and his dad got a few calls. Took a while but I guess this little indiscretion has come back to bite me on the hindquarters! I imagine most of you have a similar tale of your misspent youth. Still plan on immigrating back to Green Country on Feb. 5, 2015. Sounds like I better learn some Philippine martial arts by then.
