Thread: Sandies

They were being caught in the Verdigris river and creeks several days ago when the weather was bright, sunny and warmer; but I haven't heard of any good success since the cold fronts hit here in NE Oklahoma.

Yea that's how it goes get some nice weather and fish start biting then BAM cold front lol. Thanks guys keep them coming

BINGO! Yesterday I saw a swarm of Bees pollinating my tree! That is a great sign! I grabbed my rod and tackle and went to the Verdigris river. It took about 5 minutes before the first hookup! Then, it was a blast when I got the depth and area nailed down! Had my limit in about an hour and a half, and then it was catch and release till my arms wore out! They Sandies are absolutely on the move!!!!

where at on the verdigris river? wut lures or bait did u use?

I fished on the Verdigris river behind my house near Nowata. The best bait was tandam 1/16 oz white jigs with a pink head. I would cast, and start a slow bouncing retrieve. It would be two or three fish in a row; and then nothing for a few minutes, then BAM! It was a fairly steady bite for me. I would bet money that any Oologah feeder creek like Salt or lightening will be overflowing as soon as we get a decent rain! The river is really low! If they open the gates at the Oologah dam - that would be a super spot to try too! Hope this helps!

great info man, thx alot. i was wanting to go try oologah saturday, but dont kno if i will get to.

The wife is catching a mess right now and I'm stuck at work. Cruel isn't it! If we get some good rain the Sandies will be hitting the creeks in huge swarms. The males are on the move now, and I bet the females are a few days behind, depending on weather. Great fun catching these tough lil fighters!

I go to the river about 7pm to check on the wife, and she had a limit on her stringer - just doing catch and release for fun! She was tearing them up! LOL! It is a good time to be fishing! Now if the Crappie would get on board! LOL!
