Default Anyone fish Ellsworth in SW OK

I live near ellsworth, but haven't fished it much. I have 3 kids 6-11 and am wanting to start fishing it with them. I was wondering if anyone who fishes it could give me some insight on where and what to use to try to catch them some fish to keep them interested. I have cat fished down by the dam with punch bait with little success. We are bank fishing, but plan on getting a boat in spring. I would like to get into crappie fishing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

31 views and no replies. I guess non member views count?? If so I say rain on them. Anyway, it's getting cooler, bank fishing I'd try for some blues, clueless about your lake but with spring coming on and not having a boat I'd try some dock fishing if you can. Bank fishing for crappie in the spring can be very good. Do hour home work, and remember some people including kids don't enjoy fishing. I have a buddy with two boys, ones in the bottom of the boat asking when are we "going home, I'm hungry, I'm tired, etc etc. The other will fish all day and then some. Good luck.

I for one, have no clue where Ellsworth is, so I don't have anything to add. And Slabs, I would love for it to rain on me. Ponds and lakes are too low !!

    hey
    sw okie welcome to crappie.com
I live in cache and have been fishing ellsworth my whole life. The crappie fishing from the bank in the fall is harder than in the spring but I will try to help you and your sons. I would suggest going to the west side railroad bridge located by ralphs resort store. The water any where along the rocks would be about 16ft - 20ft and will probably produce the most fish in the shortest amount of time to help keep your sons interest. Go to porterhill gas mart and then north about two miles. turn right at lakeside village and follow road to lake. Park at store and walk on railroad bridge to cross water to get you to the rocks. pink and black is a fantastic color comb at ellsworth. you shgould find fish. In the spring wade any and all stumps in fishermans cove and elgin arm. when the crappie are on the banks(60-65 water temp) all stumps will produce 3-4 fish. i also have three sons so i understand the pressure of finding fish. good luck. dont forget ellsworth is owned by lawton so city permits will be needed.

Welcome to Crappie.com Listen to Opey very good advice and directions remember with kids it should be fun and one way to start is let them make some catfish bait. Go to BobberStop.com/bait_recipes.html . Minnows or worms use a float/bobber less hangups and fun to watch disappear. If fishing is slow let them skip stones or catch grasshoppers (more bait). Remember every trip should be an adventure and a memory they can always share. Also check out Lake Lawtonka and Elmer Thomas in the wildlife refuge.
