Searching for a missing boater by Will Rogers Point.. 2 others are injured... Prayers for the family and those involved....

Doesn't say what happened and if the wind or low lake level was involved. Be safe and smart this weekend... Winds are suppose to be pretty bad... sometimes better to stay home and live to fish another day...

I don't recognize the boat as any of the Oologah guys I've met. Still a tragedy, as Redge said sending prayers.

This is really a tragic accident that sure hits close to home for all of us local Oologah fishermen. Prayers sent to the family.

The men in the accident are all from the Oologah area. Their entire family is well known and have been fishing Oologah all their lives. They went out after Crappie this morning. As experienced as they are, It would not surprise me if the accident was caused by an unforseen submerged structure that may have caused the boat to tip enough to take on water. I've met some of the Brewer family on the water and below the dam. A very fine family! I'm curious if there is something we could do for the family of the missing man, Jeremy Brewer, 36 (I think), wife and 3 children. I cried tonight when I saw the interview with his father on channel 6. Regardless of the wind, please remember to put that life jacket on while underway in your boats. These men were solid boaters and have logged too many hours to count on the water. Proof that bad things can happen at anytime to even the most experienced.

I once owned a 14' boat with a 9.9 evinrude on it. When I lived in Kansas, I had taken two of my kids out that were 6 and 8 at the time. After a day of fishing in a wind protected area, I hadn't realized the wind had really come up until I had to go under a trestle facing a strong south wind that had to be blowing 35mph. I was staring at 3' plus waves rolling through the trestle area. The ramp was only a half mile to the right once past the trestle, but it was through standing timber. I was scared for the kids lives and I asked a kid that was in a big bass rig if he wouldn't mind taking them to the ramp for me and he readily agreed. My initial plan was to stay close to him allowing him to break the waves while I followed his path. BAD IDEA! With those giant waves, coupled with the turbulence from his prop, I didn't have very good control of direction at all with my little 9.9. I had to back off him and do my best to get to the ramp on my own. I wasn't so much afraid of the waves as I knew I could traverse them to avoid swamping the boat. What scared me the most was the timber. I just knew while working my way through it, a wave was going to drop me onto a stump or limb that would cause the boat to capsize. I made it through on a prayer, thanked the kid, loaded the boat and went home. I got lucky!

This is one reason I haven't fished in over two months. With the water level on Oologah down over 3.5', there is not one area on the entire lake other than very close to the dam that I would be comfortable with going over 5 mph. There are just too many tree tops, stumps, boulders, etc that can jump out and grab you in a moments notice. That doesn't even account for the areas one can run aground on due to low water. The Vada point ramp in Talala Creek is now out of the water and there might be 6" of water in the area.

Until the water level comes up, I urge anyone considering a trip to Oologah to be extra cautious no matter what part of the lake you are on!

That said, send a prayer out to the Brewer family for their loss of a fine young man. One of them is in critical condition and being treated for hypothermia.
Be careful guys, it's not worth your life.
