I prefer Lowrance. They are cheaper and they are local. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.

The guys back in the Marine Dept. at BPS in Broken Arrow are biased toward Lowrance totally. Heck, you'd think they get a kickback for each unit sold. I own two HB's and I sometimes go in there and start talking locators with them just to see what B.S. they'll say about HB.

I wouldn't mind owning a Lowrance unit (actually like the screens better than the HB's), but not until they do something about their customer service issues. They're still acting like they don't have any.

I am a lowrance owner, its all I've bought. I just recently installed a lowrance mark 5 elite dsi unit and I do like it. I actually left my 332c unit hooked up right beside it and watch both units a lot just to see how the images differ and helps me interpret what I used to see on 332c alone. Sooner or later I'll need to sell my 332c though. The gps just splits your screen when running simultaneously with sonar. No big problem. The detail is fantastic. I only wish I could afford the side scan hd with dsi. But for 650 dollars you gfet your money's worth. My transducers on on transom.

I have 2 Lowrance gps/sonars on my boat, I love them. My purchase decision was based on my experience with my buddies who had them, the price, and the fact that I can get parts/service locally at their corporate headquarters. I've never owned an HB so I can't speak to those. I'm sure they are great based on the comments here by guys who own them. I will say this about Bass Pro. If you are letting those jokers behind the counter affect your purchase decision you are doing yourself a disservice. I wonder if those guys even own a boat! Talk to folks that have one or the other, fish with them if you can. I'll be glad to show mine to anyone who asks, if you meet me at the lake I'll even show it to you on the water. One other thing, I bought both of my gps/locators online and saved a ton.

    Thanks, Robert

For what it's worth I tried loading enhanced lake maps (more detail than pre-loaded mapping) and it's free on lowrance website. Unfortunately their enhanced maps aren't compatable with my unit and I'd have to buy a map chip like hotspots or something to get that kind of detail. I also tried loading 2010 oologah brushpiles from corp site. It loaded on the chip but again I guess it ain't compatable with the unit. I'll have to enter those waypoints manually one at a time. The dsi images on sonar are really gerat and detailed. Still seems like a great deal for the money compared to the side imaging units.
