My son harvested a 9 point this evening that weighed 174 on the hoof. No one will believe unless they know me. It was harvested in downtown Okla City. 16" inside spread, scarred from battles and had 2 puncture wounds in his hams. He had been burning alot of fat off and appears to be an old grizzeled deer. His forehead was covered in green bark shreads. Apparently he lost one battle and was gored on the way out of the door. This buck was the smallest of 3 mature bucks. A 20 yard bow kill. We smelled him before we found him piled up in a green briar patch. A nice first buck witha bow. This boy has been tagging behind me since he was 5 years old hunting and fishing now we have changed places. He just turned 34. We both have been blessed. Lifetime of memories made and being made. When he found the deer he nelt (sp?) and said a prayer over his ability to harvest such a fine animal. It brings tears to my eyes just rethinking the evening activity.

    Lightbulb Sweetater Secret

Goodun Glen! Southernwoman, you will need to bag one with a 12 hat hanger to cap that one. Take a few sweet tater peelings and scatter them to your stand, also take a few to eat also he will follow the trail to ya and when he hears you smackin on them he will think the does are there.....and you have him so pre-ocupied he's all yours! I have drawn every wild creature with sweetaters!

    Very nice deer there rigrunner.

Sure wished I hadn't lost my hunting lease to the big money guys from Tulsa. Guess I can't complain got to hunt the lease for free for 15 yrs. Sure seems everyone who owns land now a days leases it out instead of just being a good ole boy.

Good luck on baggin your deer Southern Woman.

That is so nice and what a great memory for both of you. Our grandson Kelton got his first bow kill last month. Now he is chomping' at the bit to come to Texas and hunt next week. He will get his Texas deer with a rifle. We are making lots of memories with this 14 year old.

Are you real sure about that sweettater thing Lippy? Never have really liked them. My first deer was a 12 pointer and rigrunner said I should have started out with a lesser one cause they don't get much bigger than that. I just didn't know the rules yet for it was my first year in Texas.

Thanks to ever one for your post of congrats. I love to hunt during hunting season, and fish during the other 10 months. We don't charge to hunt on our place, we still just take family and friends. It's the same way around here in the Texas panhandle. Hunting is all leased up by the BIG money guys. We have a 60 day gun season, with a limit of 4 does and 1 buck.
