Old school but I think I'll hold out as long as I can at these prices and just use my old cable drive 12-24 Johnson hyper speed til it quits. I've already dropped the bomb on Rita and told her to expect about a 2,000 dollar upgrade soon. She didn't blink an eye but I heard the gears change! 😄

Saw that. Makes the decision to go MG easier. Now my concern is the problems I'm hearing about the shipping damage from MG. I believe both David at SU&F and Brian at BBC drop ship. I don't want to get caught up in having to ship back and forth.

Nip, I didn't know you already had yours. Have you tried the anchor or spot lock yet? (or whatever they call it)

Travis has one and we haven't heard a review yet? Suspend him from crappie camp! That's what I'm sayin.....

I did get the latest catalog from BP yesterday in the mail. Looks like the NYC phone book and it has salt and fresh water back to back this year. The Ultrex you want Floyd is in this one.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, what's going on here??? I thought this was a Lowrance Gen 3 thread not a Xi5 thread!!! lol

Yes I have the Motorguide Xi5 55 lb 12 volt 48". I have it on a 1248 jonboat that weighs 900 lbs total with me in it. I bought the motor when it 1st came out. I mean it was hard to find when I got it. I only bought the non GPS version for $740. A few months later I added the GPS for $400 more bringing the total to $1,140. I ordered both items from Black Bear Sporting Goods. Excellent company to deal with and was the cheapest. Items arrived undamaged. I love that the base unit has a smaller profile than the Minnkota. Also love that it has a wireless foot control. The pinpoint works excellent except in high winds but this is due to my 900 lb flat bottom boat. Nothing could hold it in place in high winds. I truly believe this motor would rock on a glass boat. This is a great motor for those than like to fish underground structure. As far as trolling I think the Minnkota might be better at that but can't say for sure as I don't fish this method and have only read this. The xi5 idles up when correcting movements whereas the Minnkota fires full blast. Gotta make sure you unplug power from unit before hooking up to charger. This is all I know.

As far as the Ulterra. Looks great but I couldn't justify the extra cash to maybe show off at the loading ramp! I could care less about that.

Travis, not sure I agree with you. As long as the tm has enough power, it shouldn't matter on the size or type of boat you have in high winds. (within reason)
This is why I'd have to have a demo on a boat comparable to my own before I shuck out another pile of cash on it.
So, if the tm was running full speed and simply didn't have the horsepower, I would agree with you.

I've never fished UNDERground structure. How's that done?

Forgot to add the Xi5 is quitter than the Minnkota or at least I have read. Never been around a Minnkota to compare the two. Mine is quiet.

My electric steer Minn Kota is real noisy, but it's an early version. They've muffled them some what these days. Mole Crappie huh? Might have to start a line of Weeny Dog baits!
