I think sand bass are great if you remove the red meat and eat them right away. They seem to gain a lot of fishy taste in the freezer.
I like sand bass once I cut that mud streak off the sides. I like crappie better but the crappie are winning their battle with me! I can't find them. Maybe I need to take a break from fish that are smarter than me and chase those starving sandies. Do you mind telling me(and the world of course) where and how deep you found them? Thanks for your report.

It does help if you cover the fillets with water prior to freezing but just a little of that red meat seems to generate more and more fishy taste the longer it stays in the freezer.
I always used to freeze all my fish in water. It still got fishy tasting so I quit keeping it.
Since I got a Food Saver, I vac pac fish w/o any water and I have had it keep for as long as 5 years with hardly any freezer burn. I can store about 3 times as much fish in the same amount of space now.

They are close to the bank in about 6 feet of water near the blue creek area up in the creeks where there's clearer water. Find schools of shad that are flipping around on the surface. The Sandies are usually right below the schools of shad. They really like that roadrunner. I couldnt get a bite on an ordinary jig.
Thanks Crappie Hog. Now all I gotta do is find the time to go and paint my white roadrunners orange! Smokieokie I am curious about your stage name . As a man who will smoke anything made of meat I am guessing a BBQ connection. On the other hand firemen make good fishermen so ...
I've been working on my boat the past few weeks and haven't made it out much. That said, I've replaced the livewell valve, ignition switch, battery charger, batteries, and some other cosmetic things. I'm waiting for a new trim motor to be delivered any day now and then I'll be back on the lake in full force. Expect some reports in the near future gentlemen. I'll be out there and I'll be catching them!
Meat dragger. I am looking forward to your return. Anyone familiar with the crappie magazine with the home office in Bixby? Crappie World I think. New owner. I have never seen it and wondered if it is worth the subscription effort.

I think the man will do just fine! Let's get some reports on what's happening on Oologah. I haven't had time to fish since early March, but do enjoy reading others tales. Has the bite stepped up since the water finally has dropped? Think we might have to wait until they close the dam? Toss some opinions in here folks...
