I hid from the wind behind the docks at red bud until the wind layed down in the late afternoon. For the four hours I was there, the guys on the docks caught 6 fish between 6 people, all good sized at about 10 feet deep above the hanging trees. It looked like they were holding their jigs dead still for a long time to get bit. Hard to duplicate from a boat rolling in the waves. After the wind I had about 2 hours to fish the main lake, caught some dinks in 36-22 fow around brush, no keepers, used both jigs and minnows. All my bites were also very light.

I tried it Saturday afternoon up at Spencer. Very few people fishing there but then again it was middle of day. The wind was light and manageable. Fishede brush between 18 and 23 ft. Caught one keeper and lost one keeper on the way to the surface, then a dink. All on one pile around 19ft on minnows. It was slow but weather was nice.

    Default Installing HDS 5

Has anybody installed a Lowrance HDS 5? I would like to put this in the dash on my 2005 Triton Fish & ski, not sure but I think it will fit. I currently have a smaller lowrance with a thru hull transducer, any issue with just using that transducer instead of installing the one that came with the HDS-5?

You should post this in the electronics forum. You'll get plenty of help there. If the connections on the ducer are the same, it might work. Did you purchase the LSS-1 unit for getting the SI and DI to work? If so, I don't know if there is a through hull for that transducer. You'll have to mount it outside the hull on the transom or trolling motor depending on where you want it. The guys in the electronics forum will help. Good luck!

Went out Satuday and tried to fight the brutal gusting winds from daylight until noon. Caught about 30 short fish and only had 6 keepers that were over 10 inches. Toughest day i've had in a long time at Oologah.

Kyle - I thought you were there Sunday. I went Saturday (1/14) and brought home 17 including one keeper walleye (Caught probably 15-20 short fish as well). The wind and lack of bite pushed me off the water around 2pm. Truly one of the slower days I have had on Oologah in a long time.

I am new to posting to this site and was wondering if any of the seasoned veterans have any luck catching walleye as well? It is nice to mix them into the livewell with the crappie. I am thinking about bringing some crawlers on my next outing.

A hearty welcome to the both of you! All the fishing I've done on Oologah and I've never caught a walleye. I used to fish for them all the time when I lived outside of Wichita. Night crawlers on a 3/8oz jig is a good start, just hadn't done it yet because the Crappie are so much fun. Used to get the wallies on deep diving crankbaits while trolling.

Birddog - Is this a good time of year to catch the walleye or is better as spring warms things up a little?

Yep, you're right. It was Sunday, not Saturday.
