Craig, I am in like Donkey King. I mean its on like Donkey Kong! See you soon.
I saw where Odie was out as well yesterday and had the same results other than he found some bigger fish. I haven't come across anything bigger than 12.5" since the spawn in Talala Creek.
George, after you get back stateside and get settled in along with seeing the family and you're ready to catch some fish, give me a holler as my current job has me acting like I'm semi-retired for now which means I fish a lot. If you do run out and purchase a new HDS unit, I'll help you install it, then we'll launch your boat so's you can test it out. Then we fish...

Nice catch Reaper!
I live up in Baxter Springs, KS. I do most of my fishing on Grand because its the closest. Would it be worth it to drive 20 more minutes to Oolagah? Never fished there but judging by what I see posted I wouldn't mind trying it.
Oologah is not a real good lake to try and fish if the wind is howling and you're unfamilliar with where you want to launch/fish. Oologah does allow the State wide limit of 37 Crappie with no minimum length.
Grand has a 10" minimum and a limit of 15 fish per person (I think), but there are many coves and areas one can hide from the wind. I would suggest you wait until closer to the spawn amd try your luck on Big Creek. I've never done much good there myself but have heard about many happy Crappie fishers that have had success there.

Hey Reaper...
Did you happen to notice if there was a lot of shad in the area? Just curious to know ...
I fished the south end yesterday as a tag along in someone's boat.. Could find fish but couldn't beg them to bite... I did notice that there was zero shad .. was wondering if that had a lot to do with it..

Yes like Craig said I fished yesterday and was a fun day. I kept my limit of 37 and FINALLY caught a few fish bigger than 11 inches. I had a 2 pounder, a 1.81, 1.62 and 3 more over 1.30. I caught mine in 26-28 fow, chasing shad balls. The shad were stacked from 26-18 feet and I fished 18-20 feet deep. I would lose the shad and could not buy a bite. When I found the shad again it was constant catching. I double dipped Timmy Tom weedless jig heads with Mikes Custom Baits and Bonehead Slim Sticks. Blue/white, Black/Char, Pumpkin/Char, and Smoked Cheese were colors of choice. I was going to go today but it didn't work out.

Common sense isn't always that common!![]()
That was a great read Odie. How do you stay on the shad balls?

Me and my clodhoppers walked right into that one Craig- guess it was my turn to be the straight man! Good one, but I'm hoping Odie lacks a sense of humor....
