Well, I thought I would brave the wind yesterday and take advantage of the warm weather were having. Got on the lake at 8:30 and fished til 7. One fish. I tried everything from deep brush piles to the bank and even trolled a while. Water temp was 48 -49. I would like to know if I am in the minority when it comes to Oologah, or do most people find it hard to catch fish?

I'll be paranoid as hell. LOL. The fish are anywhere from 4' to 18' deep. I caught most of the larger fish in about 6' with jigs. The water temperature at the time was 47 degrees. I fished around buck brush.

I've only fished Oolagah a half dozen times but the only time I've done any good was last spring when Reaper took me out to one of his spots. I'm sure the more you fish it and familiarize yourself with it the better the fishing will be.

You are in the minority. Oologah holds some of the best crappie fishing in the state IMHO

Sparky, don't feel bad about not catching them right now. I went with Reaper on Wednesday afternoon and we fished for over 5 hours and caught 7 total with 3 keepers. We fished deep, shallow, over brush, and open water and couldn't get anything going. I will have to say that is the exception for me though. I have generally struggled on Oologah for about a 2-3 week period when the fish are transitioning from winter patterns. I will agree with Smoky, Oologah is one the best crappie lakes in Oklahome if not one of the best in the nation. We have caught thousands of crappie out of here and I have posted to that affect. Heck this winter we slayed them in December and first 2 weeks in January, but they have moved and I haven't been able to locate them yet. They are still here in large numbers and size. Give me a couple of weeks and I will find them. Oops I may not, I am getting ready to start fishing Eufaula exclusively until after our tournament on March 24th. So I should say after March 24th I will locate them. Until then keep looking, I feel they will be in the creeks or near the mouths of creeks sitting in 8-12 fow getting ready to move up when the water gets right. Just keep fishing, the catching will come, I guarantee it.

Hey Sparky, try again tomorrow! These warm days have got them staging in the deeper waters and some may have already ventured into the shallows. If you're out in the morning, try the steeper banks near the creek channels and don't be afraid to use a jig or minnow anywhere from 2' to 5' below a bobber. If you don't get a bite doing that, move over some brush in around 15' of water and work it hard, from to top to the bottom and all around it. Ease your bait over a branch if you feel one, then let it stop, give it a twitch or two and hold steady. They are biting, some easy, some aggressive. If by noon you still haven't found any, work the 18' to 20' water looking for any brush and work that. Those who have downscan will be able to see if fish are holding on the pile or not. If not, keep looking until you find them. Shad seem to be closer to the Standing timber areas or just outside them.

I truly look for the spawn on Oologah to begin starting tomorrow!

    Sparky, check your p.m's.

AC, that was me. Normally don't fish Spencer, but thought I'd try something different the last couple of weekends. Went to Blue creek last weekend. Fished Spencer from 11 to sundown today. Wind forced me to fish in sheltered spots. Caught 15, but only managed 4 keepers, biggest fish was 14 inches. Also caught a 3lb sandbass, man that dude was on steroids or something... he put up a heck of a fight. Had a bass that wanted to try out my crappie equipment too. Tried all kinds of stuff, but couldn't buy a crappie bite until around 4. From 4 till sundown the bites were pretty steady. Fished a brush pile in 19ft and caught em on jigs and minnows, just off bottom. Had a couple of guys walk up from the bank late afternoon. We chatted a little bit and I caught a fish while we were talking. They asked if they could fish close by and I told em sure, no problem. They slip corked minnows at 12ft and did pretty good. We talked all evening and enjoyed each others catches. One of the guys had something really big take his cork under and it actually straightened out his hook. We never saw what it was.
