Thanks for the replies about the area below the dam. I didn't get to go on Sunday like I had hoped. I'm going to try and get out there this Saturday if the water is still running.
The thaw is on!!! I went by the dam about 11 am and there was some open water north of the island at Redbud. The coves were still iced over around the dam and Rebud. I then drove out onto Goose Island and there was open water looking back toward the dam. I wished I would have had a video camera with me at Goose Island. There was ice for about 1/4 mile south of the island that was still in tact but cracked like a windshield when it busts. The wind was pushing it into the island in one big sheet, but when it got to the island it was busting into the small pieces and piling up. It was one of the neatest things I have ever seen. I know my description doesn't do it justice. I went to Sunnyside ramp here by the house about 4 pm and the lake is still iced over up here and looking north. I talked to 3 guys at the ramp and they said it was too thick to launch their boat so they were headed south to the dam area. I told them this morning the gate to Hawthorn and the gate at redbud were both locked. I figure they opened this afternoon or will open up tomorrow. If they open and it's not too windy I'm going tomorrow. This cabin fever has got me down.

The gates were still locked just before dark last night, but I could see where the ice is breaking up near the dam. Maybe they will unlock them today. Man, I wish I could take the time to launch the boat. With this weather, it would be nice.

I just called the corp and they opened the gate at Hawthorn this am. I'm heading down to hook up the boat.:D I'll post a report this evening.

Well I made it out to the lake. Two boats were loading up when I got to Hawthorn and they neither one had caught a fish. I thought I would give it a try anyways. I got on the water about noon and fished to 330. I caught 7 fish and they were all under 10 inches. I fished about 8-10 different brush piles from 16 fow to 25 fow and just couldn't get anything going. There has been a massive shad kill. There were some large sheets of ice floating in the coves and there were dead shad frozen all in them. The gulls were sitting on the ice having a feast. The wind was a little a little stong out of the SE and they started letting more water out of the dam about 10. Lake up 2 feet since the last time I was out. Work tomorrow but may try again on Thurs.

With the shad kill, the fish could be as full as the gulls.

I would be fishing for bluecats right now because they would be gorging as well on the shad.
Went to Oologah today, fished the south end for about 4 hours early in the morning and caught 1 fish. Pretty slurpy fishin'. I think it may have something to do with the water level coming up the past couple days. Anyone else doing any good?
I finally got to try down below the dam on Saturday afternoon. The water flow was 3,000 cfs. There were 5 or 6 snaggers covering the pool by the ramp which really limited the fishing there. I caught 1 crappie and a couple of sandbass. Hooked a big spoonbill that got away. The deeper holes (12'+) were holding small schools of sandbass but I couldn't stay on top of them because that's the same spot where everybody was snagging. Went downstream to the first creek on the right and fished brush 4-5 ft deep. Got another crappie and 1 spotted bass. Nothing spectacular but it was good to get out. I got up close to a couple of bald eagles so that made it even better.
I am wanting to go fishing; anyone having any luck below Oologah dam? What about other Oologah areas? Cabin fever has me wanting to give it a try! Monday may be fishing day somewhere! Reports appreciated.
