Glad you guys had a great trip. Nothing like taking the kids out. Blues in Kaw are all mainly white in color. Biologists say there are no whites in the lake but there's a lot of people that will argue the point. We do catch some dark blues but mostly males. These fish have the hump on their backs just like a Mississippi white. Meat is white and not as strong as a normal blue.

Went out this afternoon to check some spawning coves. Water temp was 62 to 65 deg and muddy. Didn't get a bite shallow in the coves. Lake has been dropping fast. Moved out of the coves and spider rigged in 4 to 10 fow. Ended the day with 16 nice crappie nothing small. Used jigs tipped with big shiners. Tried moving really slow at 02 to 03 mph because of water clarity and they wouldn't touch it. Bumped it up to .05 mph and started catching fish.

Yikes that is dirtyy! I am glad you found a way to pick some up Tim. I may not make a trip to Kaw this year for the spawn unless it cleans up some. I have struggled there to catch fish when its this dirty, I guess thats why they invented turkey hunting.

Kaw is still muddy. Water temp is 64 to 66 deg. Catfishing is phenomenal when the wind is not blowing 50 mph. The crappie bite is getting better every day.

I thought Kaw was muddy. Drove over the Keystone bridge on 64 today. It's really muddy!

Try below the dam. They bite pretty good.
    Use black/chartreuse curly tail.
    Cast and retrieve.
4# test line would be good
    2 jigheads 1/16

Kaw is almost 5 1/2 feet high today with more heavy rain expected this week. Fishing below the dam can be good but prepare for a lot of company. It is really crowded on weekends. I look for them to start dumping a lot of water when they get the okay from Tulsa. With all the rain in the forecast and a fairly strong front coming in with high winds and temps in the 50s I would probably save my gas this weekend.

I'll be driving to Wichita from OKC anyway but I may try to find a smaller body of water that is less volatile with the weather swings. Thanks for the advice.

Have you considered the dock at Carl Blackwell?
