I think I caught two black crappie dinks at Fisherman's Point yesterday........Is there a way to tell black and white apart besides color?

Everyone has a secret talent they didn't know about until tequila.
DrNip, I'll be going again next Saturday and you are welcome to share my boat, if yours still isn't ready. I'm still a beginner, but I'll be happy to have you along.
Going by color only isn't good as white crappie can be pretty black at times.
White crappie have 5-10 vertical bars along their body and black crappie have scattered, random spots.
The most easy and accurate way of identifying crappie is by the amount of spines sticking out of the front of the dorsal fin. White have 5-6 spines and black 7-8 spines
The one I caught had scattered , random spots instead of your typical vertical bars on your white. I should have counted the spines and there would have been no question. I will next time

White Crappie

catch some small crappie along the rock of the dam. They are taking place of white bass.
Caught 2 saugeye the biggest being 26 inchs and 5 crappie all small and 10 sand bass today so I think a week or so and things should get good
Wow 26" saugeye! Nice. Was out at the dam from 5:30 to 7:30. Not a soul in sight. Not a crappie in sight either. Sandy sure was there though. Hate that fish. Give it another week. Hopefully the 1st week of May is on fire like previous years. Temps look to be wacky though.
