Default Need advice! Newbie to BPs

I need as much advice as possible on where to place my brush piles. I have around 60 C trees to sink and access to plenty of boo and pallets. My father in law and I have exclusive access to this once gravel pit. It hasn't been mined in years and we caught a few slabs out of it back in the fall. There is literally ZERO structure in this lake so I'm looking to create some nice brush piles. The whole lake is nothing but steep drop offs other than what you can see around the island. We are going to go graph out the actual depths around the lake this weekend. If you look to the southern side of the island you can see a hump there, it's around 6'-8' on that hump. We are also willing to take down a hedge tree or two to sink. Any advice is very much appreciated!!! It's 62 acres btw if that helps at all

So I just read my original statement and it seems to have come off the wrong way. I'll rephrase. I honestly have no idea how to set structure or brush. I've done a lot of reading throughout the forums and have gained nothing but knowledge from it but I'm still really confused on where to place my brush. I grew up in SC and I've never experienced fishing gravel pits until a couple years ago and this will be my first attempt and creating a brush pile. Thank you for any information you may have that will lead to putting some filets in the frying pan!

I'd put it on a line running from shallow to deep near that island, depending on depth, so they can move up and down according to their depth preferences. Don't be stingy--bigger structure is better, so don't use small piles. Also, Christmas trees are better than nothing, but they don't last long, they're twiggy and harder to fish, and they're better for holding young fish than bigger fish. That said, trim branches at the trunk so that you've got gaps in them for the crappie to move in and out. If the boo is long, I'd make up some bundled "laydowns" and place it around the steep edges, and put some horizontal structure in the "bays" if they're shallow enough for spawning. When you're done, I'm sure some of us would love to help you test it.

I admit not to knowing much about sinking brush piles but based upon that picture, I think I'd be felling a few of those trees along the bank - if the owner allows that. The trees might be hanging out over deeper water but as long as they didn't fall in, I'm sure crappie would gather around the ends of those trees.

Sounds to me like you have a nice problem to have

If you can find 18-14 ft of water and cable each one to a cement block pointing up and keep at least a few in groups it will make a difference for a few years. We have been sinking these as well as pvc in C J Brown for years and it has made a real difference in the small fry and bate fish. Good luck
May all the fish tales you catch be longer than the ones you tell !

Don't skimp on the hedge trees. They will last forever.
