IF YOU HAVE THE TIME....when they shut off, go get a burger or drink, and come back in an hour or so...The Predators eyesight takes up to an hour to adjust for night time hunting.
Cool Water Predator fish (Walleye, Crappie, Smallies, etc.,) burn too many calories when the water gets above 80 degrees... they will suspend during the day in oxygenated deeper water, AND HUNT AT NIGHT...they hunt at night because it is cooler, and they all have different style of night vision or hunting abilities that gives them the advantage over forage. It also allows them to consume more Calories without full out exertion.
At night go for glow baits (use a battery powdered "LED ice fishing case charger") or lures that are darker color than the water, for contrast...Beetle spins, roadrunners, and vibration baits are good. It won't take long to find a Pattern and then, IT'S ON!
All of those tiny little Shad (Sushi) will move shallow for safety at night....if you catch it right, the night bite in shallow water will be a memory of a lifetime!

We had the time and took sandwiches with us and took out about 1A. We changed bait profiles, depths and colors. Everything after dark were singles spread out. I bought some fairy dust for my jigs that is nice and bright that seems to last. I need to pick up or make a charge to simplify keeping them going. We finished down by the dam and with the spot on the headlight I saw several dinks at the surface but didn't pick up any. From the sounds they were focusing pretty heavy on insects. I did not see a single school of baitfish the entire time???
Talked to another boat while taking out at the ramp that started about 10P and they reported getting skunked.

If the lightening stays quiet Saturday morning we are going to try and go out early on the way to my folks in St. P to talk about a fall Canada trip.

I haven't been to CJ for awhile. Have been to Caesar Creek a few times. Went last night. Water temp there was just under 80. Brought home about 20 decent crappie. Might head to CJ this weekend.

Anyone know if the rain that Springfield got Sunday had any impact on the water temperature or clarity ? Going to try running crank bates on planer boards as well as worm harnesses on downriggers, will post how it goes later tomorrow.

I drove by yesterday....they were dumping water. CJ was hit hard with several inches (Both days), and also the area North of it. The good thing is it cooled the water and mixed it all up. Highly oxygenated cooler water is good...the bad thing is it's still a summer pattern, with plenty of 3/4 to 1.5 inch sushi swimming around!

Dale has football practice tonight from 6:30 til 9:30pm, so I'm going out for alittle!

Went out this morning till about 11 and had five (3 cat n 2 crappie) to show for the morning getaway. Water was 83-84deg and it does look mixed up as the clarity in down to say the least. Hay Brent,It looks like a thermal cline about 14 ft down, what do you think ?
