What kind of shape is EF in? This doggone river will never clear up with the way it's been raining. Boat still setting in the barn with the batteries charged and the tank full. Been almost 6-7 weeks since I've been out. Not sure I remember what to do.
I stopped by Sunday afternoon before the last round of strong storms. I was surprised because the water, at least on the lower dam end of the lake looked pretty good. Right when I left for home those strong storms can through and dumped another 1+inches of rain and by Monday morning the lake went up about 4.5'. I drive over EF River below the dam every day and they are pulling the lake pretty hard and the water does have some color but it doesn't look horrible. There was a rowing regatta going on last week but it ended on Sunday so the whole lake is open again.
It's been a pretty tough bite lately but it's probably has more to do with the yo-yoing water levels than anything else.
If ya decide to come over this way and want a current lake check before coming just let me know. I'm only 5 minutes away and can stop by before or after work almost everyday.
Thanks I appreciate the info. As you can imagine the river has been screwed up pretty much all year. I might have to take a road trip.
I fished EF with my dad last Friday (17th). The regatta was going on and they had the dam ramp closed but everything else seemed open.
Water was up pretty high. I think 6' over summer pool. But the water was really not that muddy, just a bit stained and it was less green than it was a few weeks ago.
A few weeks back we went to the coves and caught only dinks. This time, we started and finished on the open water, trolling with double-minnow rigs near the channel. We did pretty well til about noon. Caught 60+ fish. I caught probably 15 hybrids along with crappie. Nothing real big on the hybrid side though. They are chasing shad which are all over the lake and look to be about 2 inches in size. Many of the crappie were below 9" but I was able to keep a dozen around 10" or more. I think the best bet for keeper crappie at EF is open water. Almost all were caught about 8-12' down in 15-18' of water.
