Water temp here on Lake D'Arbonne is around 68-72 so it will soon be wormer back home as will we. Crappie master tournament this Saturday along with regional Dutch oven cook off so great fishing and food.Keitechs work great and some locals know of them. Brent, Hang in there you have a positive attitude and that along with prayers, medical treatment you will get it licked !
May all the fish tales you catch be longer than the ones you tell !

Limited last night and tonight....Bad thing was they were all barely over 9 inches...didn't keep any "legal dinks"! Not enough meat to bother...let them grow into slabs.
Daggone things were picky, tried every color and technique...they only bite for me on plain white and a nibblet, and then slow vertical jigging from the bank...they are still not working for a meal yet!
Good Fishing

I got to CJ around 0800 on Sat. More of a boat test than anything. I was supposed to go a week ago but the plans fell through. Anyhow, for the short time we fished it seemed the Crapps were still in their deep mode. At least to me they did. We made a rule this rear that nothing would be kept under 10 1/2". So we caught 11 and only 4 made the plate. The water was like glass until we left around noon. Only red/white tube jig worked for me. Turkeys are calling me so I'll try CJ again in a week. Good luck out there.
You are right, they still are in the deep pattern....to me, this means that the water in the shallows at depth is still cold, and the deep water hasn't turned over yet....Another part of that is the Carp are not spawning, and Shad are still deep also....Hopefully all this water from yesterday and last night warms the water up.
Good Hunting....then Fishing!

My family and I were fishing at Cowan Lake Saturday. We were mainly in an area about 25 to 30FOW. The crappie were moving around and would make brief visits to our area. Many times I could see 3 or 4 distinct "layers" of fish. I assumed that at least one of these layers might be bait fish. Thinking that crappie normally like to attack from beneath, I assumed that the middle layers might be the bait fish. We were catching crappie as shallow as 2-4ft and as deep as 16-20. I could occasionally see a fish swim up from the bottom to the masses. Water temp was around 65 and very stained.
Is it possible that the crappie were split into distinct layers?
The interesting thing was that the fish caught higher in the water column were often a bit larger than the others.
Could anyone guess when the ice will be good for fishing again? Downtme, you may as well stay down there as the ground is frozen here.. Marina restrant may not open until November1..Somebody did something terribaly wrong , Lowell you had better straighten up.CJP
One more cast.
HOW DEEP DO YOU FIGURET THE SHALLOWS ARE?
The depth of "Shallows" vary, it's according to how tall you are!
Water temp has dropped to 53 degrees and is gonna lose some more heat.
Hey Fritz, why don't you open up a hamburger stand at the Main Boat Ramp? Set yourself up a tent, have a grill, cooler with cold soda, heck you could make a killing....or buy a food truck and do it all there...Dale and I need a good place to eat out there.

I have thought about getting an old pontoon boat and making a floating snack bar of sorts. have a second for a patio, third for a bait shop etc , but I remembered. I couldn't swim .
Just a reminder frost/freeze warning. don't leave live bait out
