Thumbs up By Golly, I did it!

Last spring while talking to my retired neighbor. I mentioned to him that when I retired I wanted to live closer to a lake. Most of my life I've lived on the east side of Cincy. The thought of driving an hour every time I wanted to go fishing can sometimes be a mood killer. Since I was going to 62 in the fall I thought want the heck am I waiting for.
I tried to talk my wife into just quitting our jobs and moving to Ky Lake. I figured I could make a few little cardboard signs "Will work for tube jigs" or "Disabled Viet Nam vet out of work, needs money/gas for boat." She liked the idea but didn't want to leave the kids, grandkids or her tennis buddies. I needed another plan.

So we started to look a little closer in SW Ohio. I didn't care which direction we moved (N, W, or E) My needs were simple. I wanted a ranch, my boat had to fit in the garage and I had to be within 5 miles of a Krogers.
She had some goofy concerns about 1st floor laundry, size and number of rooms or something and what the kitchen looked like so I let her do the looking while I fixed up the old place.

She decided she wanted to move east to Clermont County and at the end of the summer we found a place that met our needs and we bought it and closed and took possession in mid-Oct. We still had a few things to finish on the old house plus do a few things to the new house so we didn't get to move until mid November.
Now that we were in our new place, we could finally put the old place on the market. Since it was so late in the year we weren't planning on listing the house until after Jan 1st but our agent suggested that we list it right away since inventory levels (of houses) were so low and there were lots of buyers. So it went on the market the weekend before Thanksgiving and we had a contract in 8 days and closed on 12/30. It was perfect.

After 26 years of living in the old house, I really never thought I'd leave.
Here's the nice thing now from my driveway to the launch ramp it's 10 minutes. Now if (or when) this crazy weather would lighten up...I'm ready. I also cut my drive to my hunting spot in half too.

    John,
    CONGRAT'S, that is awesome!!
    Welcome to retirement,
I'am still stuck trying to sell house to downsize.
Maybe we should set up, Disabled Viet Nam vet's crappie guide service to supplement our non-existent incomes.
Will look forward to seeing you on the water, hopefully this ice will leave sometime!!!!!
    I'am assuming 10 min to E.F., I'am 10 from C.C.
I USE BIG BOBS CRAPPIE BAITS !!

Tom, I'm still working full time....at least for now. After this year I may cut back to a 4 day work week. The owners asked when I was going so I said 64 or 65 but I would like to start cutting back whenever they were comfortable. They just started a new manager last week to start learning our operation so we'll see.
We really needed to downsize. The other house was just too big and we had rooms we just never used.
My hunting partner plans to retire in 2 years and I may just wait until he goes.
Yes, I'm 10 min from EF on the south side. The bad part is I still work in Fairfield so it's a long drive but it won't last forever.
Some of my friends tell me I'm a free guide service now. I usually try to take a half a dozen guys out every year who don't have the means to get out otherwise. I wait until the bites is really good, then I invite them out. They think I'm a God and of course I don't tell them anything different.
I'm ready for this weather to ease up a bit, I need some sun.

You deserve it John. I hope this is your best year fishing yet. Enjoy the new house. Just think of those late summer nights you can make it out after work and still get a few hours of fishing in.

Congratulations on the move. If you are on the south side of EF then you got closer to the river tribs also. Can't wait until this weather breaks myself. Older I get the more I dislike this bitter cold.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Daylight savings time starts March 9th

You are correct I live on the south side and I was thinking about the river tribs too. Even if I want to fish Indiana it's not too far driving around 275. I was planning on trying up your way some this year also. It's a shame they block the access to those creeks like they do, we used to fish them in the winter years ago. We got some nice crappies back then.
I told my wife we can try this for a few years and if this weather stays this way lets move to Florida....I don't necessarily like most winters but this year is ridiculous.
