Great read. We are about to lose our lakes if they powers that be don't get a solution to the Asian carp soon. The commercial fishermen would take 10s of thousands of pounds of them out of the lakes monthly if the price could get up to say 20-25 cents a pound in the rough. Right now the price is not even a break-even proposition. The processing plants are miles from the lakes and in 90+ degree heat, the carp will spoil in minutes.
The guy in the article came along at a time the government allowed business to thrive. Now they put their foot on the necks of aspiring businesses and the banks won't lend capital for such a risky start-up.

I wish they would allow snagging carp on KY and Barkley. I could start a new venture and probably get rich taking folks out, pull a small dingy or kayak, let them snag one of the 70 pound bigheads, jump in the little boat and the show would begin. It would be like a Nantucket Sleighride from the old whaling days. Hooking one of them is like hooking a jet-ski.

Nice read, My only concern is when people like this start making money off the carp it may cause problems down the road if more drastic measures are needed to be taken. Look at Australia, they have approved the 18 billion dollar budget to use the Koi Virus on the carp, but you got folks like this fighting tooth and nail because they make a living dealing with the carp and also provide a lot of jobs etc. So I personally wouldn't want commercial fishing for them on my lakes, I would opt to have the problem eliminated with no fuss or lawsuits from big corporations etc. You want to eat carp then farm raise them suckers, keep them away from my fishing holes
