Man its a slippery slope introducing aquatic vegetation, as most will take over the edges. I would vote for some shallow water christmas trees, can pick up around neighborhood after christmas, and dont hold snakes and other critters bad as grass.
Any of you guys know much about ponds? I want to add some plants to it for the small fish and other small life to have a place to hide but not sure what plants I can put in without them taking over

The Ms State extension service also have biologist to assist and help private landowners with their ponds....you need to look into that as well.

DD, I agree with what has been said. I put brush piles and stake beds in my 4 acre lake. The trouble with aquatic plants is they can get out of control before you know it. It seems like I was pulling willows out of my dam every week. If they get started, the roots will weaken the dam. Keeping them out was a full time job.

Round Bale of hay works good and stays for years and years
I hear that water hyacinth is good for fish and easily manageable.
