What are yall using to support the shaft of your trolling motor when it is in the stowed position? The head of the motor is out there just kinda floppin around. Seems like I saw some sort of support somewhere to fix that but I can't remember where.

    Some use a ram mount.

haven't used any support on my motor. It does flop around a little, but nothing to worry about. There is nothing in the head of the unit to really worry about. Everything that doesn't need to move is mounted with rubber to keep shock down.

Who is that Jeepster fella? And who is that Tlow fella? Dang newbies are just taking over this joint.

Ram makes a mount for it...prolly $40 or so. Or you could gin one up with a pvc and rubber chair leg cover. Heck, I got a PVC one you could have that'll work. Even on my boat at full tilt in rough water, it will bounce and flex a little, but as long as the foot is locked into the base, it ain't going to where.

I use a velcro rod stow strap, screwed it to the deck and just wrap it around the shaft. It holds is securely down. Also solves the accidental deployment problem.

Premature deployment can be a problem

A friend made me a U-fork welded on threaded rod stock so I drilled a hole and attached it to the deck to support the tm head whenever the tm is in the stowed position. I used tyrap ties to hold short pieces of a swim noodle to the fork to cushion it. Looks OK and does a good job.

I've got the velcro strap on the boat already. I guess I need to commence to making some sort of support. I like WB's idea but I will probably use a little stronger material like stainless steel maybe.

I really dont think there is a need for the support, I havent had any problem there. The strap cinches it down pretty tight tho.
