The question is... WHY does a Baptism have to take place at a boat ramp? If I was the fisherman, I would have launched as well. They can Baptize in other areas than the ramp.
Touchy situation, be the guy getting baptized to garner salvation, or be the guy who can't launch his boat because of a Baptism on the boat ramp.

I have to disagree, the Lord's work come's before fishing.Alot of old southern baptist do this from time to time and I think it's kind of neat.Slow down and enjoy what the Lord gave you and enjoy every moment and give a little respect for his work.Remember if those 40 baptised keep the faith that's 40 that wont end in hell.
I encouraged folks to get baptized. It's a great thing. It's also rude to take over the only access to the lake for boaters. Take a collection for a tank, but don't intrude on someone elses time. It would only anger those who don't believe, and give them reason to dislike the Church.
By no means am I trying to disrespect those who choose to get baptized, or the events that take place that encourages "the lords work". So please, don't get me wrong.
Certain folks have very limited times that they can take their boat out. Everyone on this forum knows how frustrating it can be not to be able to launch, due to some inept person on the ramp. Toss in a Baptismal with 40 people getting Baptized, you might as well drive back to the house.
I am only trying to say, they can have the Baptisms in areas other than the ramps.

Bet it was one of them Green Carp fisherman. They alway's in a hurry.:D
I know everyone wont agree with me but I would probally watch and enjoy the baptism and reschedule my fishing for another day.Although this did occur on July the 4th I think they could have chosen a different day as everyone was trying to get on the water for the weekend. As far as the inept people go and there is alot of them,I heard a man screaming at his wife the other day,she was trying to back a pontoon in and was having a terrible time.I asked her if I could do it for her and she was crying and shaking and thanked me.My opinion is get to know the situation and offer help when on a crowded ramp.
Sometimes i might work three or four weeks without a day off. I do that by choice, not because i have to. If i work three or four weeks without a day off and finally get a chance to go fishing for a couple hours, I would not wait for it to be over if it was going to take longer than half an hour. You can be babtized just about anywhere on the banks but can only put a boat in the water at a few spots. I think its great that they were getting babtized and think everyone should, but there are other places to do it at than at the boat ramp.
This is something from my past. I lived in Chattanooga from 83 til 99. Had a house on the lake most of the 90's in Soddy Daisy. This is a unique little community that had been isolated in the mountain valley for a long time. They built an interstate through there in the early 90's and where it took almost an hour to get Chattanoga before it was about 20 minutes after the interstate. I'm assuming that they were using the public access ramp in the city that is part of the city park. (There are several withing 10 miles) There was also a man made beach right up from the ramp. There are numerous places that would work for their purpose other than the ramp, or at least there was. They also used to have a really neat and large 4th of July fireworks show that drew a lot of people on both water and land. Can't understand the reasoning of the people for using the ramp, especially on one of the busiest days of the year. Course, there were several churches in the area that still handled snakes. Not being critical or judgemental, just letting you know that there is a real diverse selection of churches there.

My church has done the same thing on the Shenandoah river. Give the church a baptism ramp and end the problem.

I'm just happy that we still have such things to argue about here in the South. Lots of other places around the country and world are losing their religious roots, much less performing baptisms at the local boat ramp.
