Several years ago, I was anchored in my kayak, flipping a beadhead nymph under a strike indicator for bluegill. The sun was shining, and I was daydreaming just enjoying the quiet. Looked down and this guy was slithering his way over the front to join me. Hes only a yellow racer but still and not poisonous but non the less not invited on board.

Me too! I see water snakes on my home stream all the time and give them a wide berth. My best story was fishing a deep pool and then I heard a tremendous ruckus an lo and behold a big water snake had wrapped around a small catfish and was heading for shore. The wrestling continued into the weeds 10 feet stream side and after a minute or so everything got very quiet. It had caught some meal. I just quietly waded on. None of my bidness !

I grew up in water Moccasin country. Any snake in the water gets a second look
