What's the difference between a Hormone and a gene?

I think a gene is part of how your DNA is coordinated. I think each gene controls a certain DNA protein that is coded for certain characteristics. A hormone is a chemical released by one or more cells that affects cells in other parts of the organism. Only a small amount of hormone is required to alter cell metabolism. Maybe I am close with this, I learned it but do not quite remember it all.

Not sure about the hormone. My mamma said she found me in a crawdad hole. I never knew exactly what she meant.
