Does it sound like a thermostat issue to you guys?
Woke up this morning to the joy of
my AC not wanting to turn on . The AC , fan , and heater will not
turn on. Since the heater will not turn on too I am hoping that it is just the thermostat. I think I will try to replace the thermostat and see what happens. I am assuming it cannot be that difficult as long as I don't electrocute myself. Does anyone have a contact in the Lafayette/carencro/Scott area that does reputable AC work at a decent price? Any advice on this or contacts would be greatly appreciated!
I would check the batteries in the thermostat first, if you have a thermostat that takes the batteries. Mine is digital and takes batteries. Sorry couldn't be of any more help. You may try to PM Tracker123 as he lives in the Carencro area.

I don't think it has a battery since it's not a digital one . I have to adjust the temp by manually moving the little switch.... I'll check when I get home. Thanks though Shadow
I do not think thermostat.....if your unit is in an attic, they put a drip pan under so it will collect condensation and that drains to the plumbing drain....it usually has a "P" trap near the a/c unit....it will get clogged up and the drip pan will fill up....they put a float shut off switch in the drip pan so that it will not overflow to your ceiling below.....if the pan fills up and trips the shut off switch it will shut down the entire system.....
I would check this out before I call a repair man...easy to fix...sending you a PM with my cell number if I can help more....

Thanks Bruce, I will be home around 1 and I going to check that pan. You are the second person to mention that as a possible issue so you could be right. I'll call if I have any questions buddy ! Thanks for the reply
True what Bruce said about split units, could very well be the case about the float switch. Move it up and down to see if it is working properly. First thing to check though is if you have power to the unit. Check the breaker then go outside and check the quick-disconnect (all units are required to have this) to see if power is coming in. Next, remove the panel where the power is coming in and you will see a relay (the folks in the HVAC industry call it a contactor). This relay utilizes low power (such as your thermostat) to activate the high power to run the unit. It's about 3" square, with small wires coming in on one side and larger wires going out the other side. You'll see that there is a spring activated block that makes the contact to activate the unit. Get a small screwdriver and manually close the block to make contact to see if the unit works.
This relay is the most common thing out due to continual motion and crud on the contacts, much like a pressure switch on a water well. Just changed mine (well, Ann did with my supervision) on the water well. Have replaced two relays on the AC/furnace in the past ten years. The thermostat will not hurt you in the slightest - it's low voltage.
Let me know if you need help.
Thank you fellas for the great advice! My wife went up In the attic and checked the pan on her lunch break and that was the issue. Got it running again and I am going to clean the drain out this AM now that the attic is cooler. Thanks again for all of the advice fellas . I think I might have to save this post for future reference !
Glad thats all it was
