A lot of people call them Banana Spiders but they're Golden Orb spiders. My dad called them lightning spiders. I never knew why. And they WILL turn you into a ninja if you walk into their web!
A true banana spider is the fuzzy one shown above. They're also known as the Brazilian wandering spider.

True banana spiders from South American can be deadly. Back in the 60's was tied up at a pier in Charleston SC next to the banana boat piers. About every day a ambulance would haul a guy out of there that got bit by one unloading Bananas. I think they finally came up with a way to fumigate the loads with something that would kill them and not be toxic to humans.

Oh man Id rather french kiss a rattlesnake than to have one of them things on me......I do like em though, they serve a great purpose when it comes to helping control insects and stuff and I admire their whatever it is...intellect I guess youd call it...to build webs and catch critters. As long as it stays over 5 feet away from me...

Have you ever run into their webs. I think that's where they get spiderwire from. Man that stuff is strong and sticky.

I hate spiders. Other than roaches nothing else creeps me out like spiders.

Got bit by a brown recluse on the foot years ago. Made a hole bigger than a quarter. Can still see the spot. La fish nut, you had me laughing thinking about your post. I hate walking into a web. But I have learned son new moves while doing so. lol
