    Default Cane Creek near Waxhaw

I had an invite today from a friend who lives near Waxhaw to fish Cane Creek. He said to bring my pontoon down and he will put me on some crappie, he said he would let me know when they are biting again. Does anyone know if there is a motor restriction on the lake? I didn't see anything on what little internet information I was able to find out about it. Thanks in advance.

It would have to be a really small pontoon that you can carry in your truck.

University Lake and the Cane Creek Reservoir are stocked with bass, crappie, catfish, bluegills and other fish. A State fishing license is necessary except on July 4th.
OWASA offers canoes and flat-bottomed boats for rent. Citizens may use small private boats if they are brought on a car or in a truck. (Trailers are not allowed.)
The limits on private boats are intended to help prevent aquatic weeds, which cause problems for fish and in water treatment, from being introduced into the reservoirs. For this reason, boats must be cleaned of mud and vegetation.
To help protect water quality, OWASA allows only electric motors, which are also inspected.
Citizens with disabilities will receive assistance from OWASA staff as needed in order to enjoy boating and using the recreation area at the lake. University Lake has a fishing pier for use by people with disabilities

There was no motor restriction the last time I was there. It has been known to turn out some rather large crappie and bass.
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

There are two different lakes. One is on Highway 54 between Graham and Chapel Hill. Here is their website: Orange Water And Sewer Authority All you need to do is bring a battery--they rent boats and trolling motors.

Poppop, I live near cane creek park and have fished it many times. The last several years it has been a very good lake to fish, but with everybody taking limits out almost every day last year and the year before, crappie fishing has dropped to almost nothing, One of the better fisherman on the lake who in the past years has caught (and released most of them)probably an average of two limits a week is struggling to catch 2-3 fish per trip. I will make the trip to HR, TT, Tillery etc before making the 6 mile trip to cane creek. I will also mention that it will cost you $10 to enter the park, launch your boat and get a fishing permit. PM me if you need additional info.

thanks polarcrafter....my buddy lives close to it...and he was telling me...at times its good. I am not sure I want to pull all the way down there or not....for one day. One thing I do know for sure...if I go fishing with him there..Cane Creek won't become a habit regardless of how many we catch.... its just to far. From my coonhunting days in that country..it seemed like it took forever to get to Waxhaw.
