    Default Norman at night 6/7/08

Got out right before dark, tried my new chene anchor out, held ok. Got on top of what looked to be scattered schools of perch. Whatever it was quickly disapeared after I got anchored. Dropped two lights in, baited rods, and had baitfish in the lights by the time I was done getting rods in. Idk why I didnt have more fish under me. By nights end you could walk on the fry and the little alwifes under me. Started slow, stayed slow, ended frustrating lol. Got there at dark, fished til midnight with only a dozen small perch to show. Kept a few for bait on the catfish rods out back. Put one on live with no takers. They die awfully quick this time of year. Cut a couple up for bait just for the sake of hearing a clicker. Had one drive by at 90mph (when he takes it just long enough to get u excited). Picked another one up too soon and he dropped it. MY buddy called, and asked me how I was doing, told him, asked if I was catfishing and if I had any luck, said nope, when one of the clickers went off. Well even if I had to cut the hook outa his gut, I was gonna let him eat it....waited too late.Felt him drop it when I engaged the reel to set the hook. Well about midnight the crappies decided they wanted to bite. Caught half a dozen or so before I got sleepy and decided a bed was more comortable than a fold out chair.

Well I got every thing up, back anchor up, now for the front anchor (brand new, only seen water ONCE, just to try to see if it would set, instead of using my 60lb back breaker. Well it did, and I spent 30min making circles around it with the rope tied to the back of the boat trying to get it unhung. I tried 360* to get it unhung. Its a Chene...the kind that the ring slides backwards when pulled the opposite way it was set, to pull it back out of a snag. Like I said, I spent 30 min with the rope pulled tight and the transom whining as I kept it tight, going in a slow, steady circle, after pulling the opposite way to get it out didnt work. Notta, nothing, it didnt budge. Finally said hmmmm maybe if I let all my anchor line out and try it at a flatter angle. So I did....started out the opposite way I set it, and it came right out. Talk about something to go thru alone at 1:40am

LOL your half bucket full of cement aint got nuthin on my old anchor. Was hot on my end too. My shirt didnt dry til midnight or so

Sounds good. My lights and night set up aint nuthing tho. Just two Qbeam starfire IIs off the starboard side about 5 or 6' apart. Can see the rod tips from the light shining up from the water. Use a headlamp for anything else. Folding chair sitting behind the rods, sideways in the boat, straight out the side, cooler on one side of me, minner bucket on the other wide of me.....and fish cooler near minner bucket if needed lol. Course with two ppl its a minner bucket and drink cooler between the chairs, everything else the same, fish cooler beside whoever has room. You wanna see professional night stalkers, go see Rango and OT.

Great story! There's one thing you can usually count on with anchors....when you need em to set, they slip. When they finally set and you need them to release, forget about it!:D:D
