Default High Rock Flat Swamp April 06 2008

We put in at Flat Swamp about 11:00 am today. Went under the Hwy 8 bridge and started in near the Four Mile Branch split. Water was pretty muddy there and we worked docks back toward the bridge on the right side. Caught about 50 crappie anywhere from 11 feet to 2 feet of water, probably 30 were 10 inches or more, water temp was pretty steady at 55 degrees. They wanted minnows only not one hit on jigs. We kept 13 of what we though were males and turned the fat females back in. It worked out pretty good, only one of the ones we kept and filleted was a female. My granddaughter caught her first ever largemouth bass. It hit a minnow and he worked her over good, had that Ugly Stik bent double. I netted him for her and it was 19 1/2 inches long and weight 4 3/4 pounds. She was so excited I think everyone within a half a mile heard her yelling. Went to take a picture of the bass so we could release it, but the batteries was dead. Took the pictures after we made it home, and it shows the wrong date. I wouldn't trade this experience today with my granddaughter on her first bass for a brand new bass boat. You can buy a boat, but you can't buy the excitement my granddaughter had today.

Poppop, looks like you took to long to take the 2nd picture. Nice pictures.
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

she is actually pretty darn good at cleaning fish. And she can skin a deer to.....not the least bit afraid to get her hands bloody.

She ain't afraid to get dirty either.

A pretty good shot, this is her 100 yard group with her .243

Standing by with her knife with deer blood on her face, waiting for me to get the skinning started on her first deer
