Default Opening Day of Trout Season (I know, they're not crappie)

Got up at 4:30 am and checked the weather. Decided to head on up, and glad I did. Took Zach to the Dan River and had a great morning (despite the rain). Fished with crappie minnows and had my limit by 8:30 including throwing back several. Zach had his limit by 9:45 so we headed up to see my grandpa and take him out to lunch. Biggest was 17" and 2 1/2 lbs. Two others at a pound and a half. This was Zach's 1st limit he caught totally by himself. Trout have been the only fish to give him a problem:D, but he got on 'em today. Suprisingly the water was up a little but not stained at all. All the feeder creeks we crossed as we were leaving were muddying up pretty good so I'm sure the Dan will too. Got to see several turkeys strutting out in the middle of several fields on our way out too.

Nice trout. Haven't seen a catch like that in awhile. And I see you got your turkeys ready for next Saturday too. Good to see the young man getting his limit too. Congratulations.

Default You seem like a good father

I love seeing pics like these. They remind me of my childhood with my pops. We are actually going out to Harris Lake on Friday nigth. Seems like you taught him well.

My uncle used to take me to the Dan River trout fishing when I was only a couple of years older then Zach. I will have those memories forever.

I guess it was the upper end. I've fished the same area since about '92 and usually leave with a decent limit. Up till this year I usually have to "help" Zach get his limit, but this was all him. I was showing him a technique and hooked one that he reeled in, but he actually threw one back and caught another one by himself, so he legitimately caught his limit by himself. He has been trout fishing with me since he was about 5 or 6 and last year was his first year wading with me. He is catching on fast and learning what the bite feels like. We don't turkey hunt cause we're fishing , but we do enjoy watching them. Between the trout, crappie, and stripers my wife won't let me pick up another hobbie .

    Default Ouch, that hurts

Had a trout fishing trip planned for this weekend with a couple of friends from work. Couldn't decide due to the weather forecast so the boss decided for us, we all had to work Saturday & half a day today getting things ready for the furniture market that starts tomorrow. Great catch, I would like to talk to you sometime about fishing the Dan River. Tell Zach way to go!
