Since this fish was caught in a pond, it is highly unlikely that it was caught in a tournament. Just because they show a digital scale as would be used in a tournament, does not automatically mean that the scales were zeroed.

No not a tournament but just meaning probably the scales were zeroed. Don't matter where the fish was caught. This is a crappie forum and this is a great crappie. No need to question the weight of the fish. Take it at face value and show the man and the fish some love. Largest I've ever seen regardless if the scales were or were not zeroed.

On the Facebook page there was a picture of the Tennessee Game & Fish Dept. weighing and certifying the Crappie.

I saw a 4lb 15oz crappie that was caught in Dallas. Probably not a record since it was caught on a trot line on a goldfish. Still an impressive fish!

The owner of the bait shop/meat market had it displayed on ice that morning waiting for G&F to come by and certify it. When he stepped in back for a moment, some low-life stole that fish.

That would be cool! Lets me know there are crappie of that size out there. Maybe not in our lakes but gives a man the drive to go after them. Where do y'all think, Santee?. There is a photo of a 3.91 at Hill's on High Rock also a 4.25 weighed at Tamerac but unofficial scales. I would be happy with either.
