Headed for Stagecoack yesterday after work looking for minnows along the way (coming from D/T Raleigh)...couldn't find anywhere near there to find them. Finally I cut my losses and decided just to go artificial for the evening. Stagecoach looked so crowded when I got there that I decided to try the bridge just west of there next to the intersection of Barbee Rd...where noone was fishing...and apparently for a reason. I caught probably 7 or 8 crappie in an hour, but none over 6 inches...and one smaller largemouth. Better than gettin' skunked I guess.

1st question...any bait shops near stagecoach?

2nd question...has anyone ever fished that other bridge where I fished last night? Does it just not get as many fish as stagecoach? or do they come later?

WVUIRA I did not know that place was there but it seems to me that the fish could get up there just as likele as the stagecoach road place. I looked at it on the sat picture and it may be something to retry. Maybe they were just not biting that day. The whites will hit the artificial stuff like jigs w/ curley tail and roostertails or topwater if they have a mind to. What artificial were you using? I think they like it to move some.

FISHCRAZY...Was using white rooster tails and caught the small crappies on them pulling slow. Tried pulling fast for white bass, and only caught the largemouth. Maybe they're just not up there yet, or probably fewer migrate into this stream. Not sure...but I'll try it again sometime in the future.

The fish are OK to eat- it's just their mind is polluted from being so close to UNC and the Deandome.

Cought 3 whitebass today in about 3 hours. Lost one nice one. Probably 15 ppl there and everybody was catchin fish. The minnow crowd wasn't doin to good, but everybody using grubs or spinners was catchin crappie and whitebass. Saw one guy catch a bowfin that must've been 30 lbs.
What's worse, to be in church wishing you were fishin' or to be fishin' and know you should be in church?

Tarpon those bowfin in there are awsome arent they. I hooked up with one of them the other day about 2 foot long and he was a hoss. Saw numerous of them caught. Has the water gone down much? When I was there you could not see any of the rocks around the dam at all. Spinners you say? I will definately try that. I think a little george or a roadrunner will work there. I have seen them go nuts over topwater also. I had a blst one day last year with a floating minnow bout 2inches in silver and black. The guy with the metal fluttering spoon was nailing them good with that too. I would like to have one of those but dont know what it was. Looked like a rattletrap but was just a piece of metal that vibrated or fluttered when reeled through the water. I think they like that action. It attracts them to the bait.

Thanks for the report. Looks like I may have to get over there again soon.
