    Default Kerr Scott Camping/Fishing

Anyone have info on the camping around the area? I've never been but would like to pull my boat in and camp for a weekend. Also does the lake tend to get muddy? I've seen the forecast the next couple days are pretty wet. Thanks for any info.

A friend has camped at Warrior Creek area. It's across the bridge on 268.

There are some campsites at Warrior Creek where you can actually beach a boat (aint saying it is approved, but it happens). I have not been to the dam this week but I live about 10 miles downstream and the river has been absolutely soupy muddy this week. The top of the lake gets really muddy after a rain and they are calling on 1 1/2 inch tomorrow and tomorrow night. I will warn you upfront that it is a very hard lake to fish. You will either have one of the best days of your life fishing or more often you will wonder why you wasted money on bait. The scenery is nice and I have been seeing several bald eagles up there in the past 2 years. Not usually much boat traffic either.

I talked to the staff in the gatehouse at Bandits Roost last week. It's the campground closer to the dam. Regular season opens April 1. Right now it's open for winter camping, first come, first serve. For April 1 going forward you'll need to make reservation online. It'll be totally booked up at the end of April due to Merlefest.

Thanks for the info guys. If it tends to be muddy I'll probably hold off this weekend with the rain moving in today.

This was the yadkin this morning about 15 miles downriver of Kerr Scott Dam. We got 2 1/2 inches of rain in the last week and it is muddy as well as up probably 2 feet. There have been times that I have had some excellent crappie and smallmouth fishing in the river. There is no dam between Kerr Scott and Idles Dam below I 40 and from Idles it is uninterrupted to High Rock.
