Billynitten i agree with Dennis speed and the strike zone is the main thing. I use the 2oz trolling weights off the front on the crappie max rods i got from Monk but i tight line.

We use a two-jig setup with a 3/16 or 1/8 on the bottom jig and the top jig usually a 1/16 or 1/32 at .8 mph. Use the electronics to see what depth the fish seem to prefer and then either vary your speed or jig weight to get you bait in the strike zone.
Saturday was interesting because the majority of competitors were tight-lining minnows while three of us were pulling jigs. There is no right or wrong, just what do you prefer and what will catch the big fish. One thing I know for certain, when you are throwing 1.2 lb. fish back in the water because they are too small, it's a good day to be crappie fishing.
mac crappie LIKED above post

Great report, really impressive weights with 13 teams having over 10 lbs. Any idea are the tight liners fishing over brush or more fishing certain type areas, not looking for anyone's spots as I don't fish Jordan, just trying to figure out where some of the larger fish are staging.
Roy, we had 10.19 lbs, and all of our fish came off the channel ledge from 10-18' deep. I think some of the bigger fish came a little more shallow than we fished. I caught fish in the area where some of the top teams fished at this year, last year during practice. I was just concerned with the wind, I wouldn't be able to fish there on Saturday. With the water temp in the low to mid 60s , I should've focused on some shallower areas.
On Jordan it is all about following those massive schools of shad, not fishing brush. There is a window of opportunity in the Fall in which the shad move into shallower coves to stay in warm water. At some point in November a cold spell will hit and lower the water temperature enough to run all the shad down towards the dam in deep water with the crappie following. Like Jack said, the water temp on Saturday was in the mid-60's, so plenty of bait out in the open bodies of water with crappie around them. I think some of the winning teams were able to find some locations in which some big fish were moving into some shallow areas.
thanks guys, appreciate the information.
does anyone know if the ramp is open at ebbanizer(sp?)
It was open last week.
JACK,I SEE YOU FISH IN WATER UP TO 10 FEET AND YOU SAID YOU SHOULD HAVE FISH SHALLOWER,AT JORDAN WHEN YOU GO UP THE CREEK DO YOU STILL HAVE A CHANNEL DROP OFF THAT SHALLOW,ON KERR IT IS FILL IN THAT SHALLOW BUT IT IS MUCH OLDER THAN JORDAN,ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT GOING FARTHER UP THE CREEK? JUST TRYING TO TEST KERR TO THAT WAY OF FISHING.SOME CREEKS STILL HAVE SOME DROP OFF IN CHANNEL AND OTHERS DO NOT
