    Default Yellow Perch

Not many people know about this fishery. Hope I'm not feeding the lurkers. But next weekend I'm giving the crappie a break and borrowing my bosses boat to go troll up some yellow perch in, well, a lake in Bladen County. If you don't know where I'm talking about p.m. me. But theres a lake out there with an actual perch fishery that produces (some days) catches of some really nice yellows with plenty over a pound. You gotta pick through a lot of little ones, but the big ones are there. We usually troll little perch colored cranks, but tight lining works just as well. If you don't know this fishery its a cool winter/spring thing to do.

Of course I'm referring to down east where there aren't many yellows. I know there are plenty of inland lakes with them, but not so many down east.

Not sure which of the Baden lakes you're hitting, but we fish one at least a couple times during the winter to stock up a few perch fillets. Normally come home and clean fish for an hour or 2. It's a real blast ...... wish it wasn't such a long drive for us.
You just gonna sit there an argue, or fish?

Wish I knew a lake around here like that. I did read an article saying Lake Richard B. Russell had a decent Yellow Perch fishery but never heard any more about it. We got a zillion of the White Perch though. Good luck and post some pictures. I'm like BearClaw, all I catch are 4 to 6 inch Yellows.

I know a lake that has some really nice yellows(raccoon) perch but it has so much cover you have to wait till water gets really cold to drive them out. Sometimes in February I can do good. They really are fun on ultra lites.

I've actually caught a couple small ones in Lake Wylie which makes me think there's an alright population of them in there. Might be some in the creeks come Feb
