Default Norman is stormin' Striper/hybrids night action 4/10 4/12

Wed evening i FINALLY set out on my first norman night time striper fishin voyage. before i got started, i started about 2 to my bait hole destination hoping that the herring have showed up. it didnt take long before i hand counted and dropped 165 nice herring in my tank before trailering to norman. I wish every bait netting trip was that routine. Gave HD3 a call and told him and his son to meet me at the ramp about 7p. Prior to picking him up, i set sail about 5p to scope the action out by myself. Pulled up to my tried and true spot, dropped the first downline, set it in the holder, turned to grab the next rod and she was already doubled over....first fish of the spring and it was a decent 24 inch 6 lb norman striper.

This continued all evening, went to the ramp to pick up HD3 and his son, and came back to them biting again and called it quits by dark. had enough already. kept 3 limits and released approx 12+ more. The shock of it all was it was about 50/50 striper and hybrids. there have been hybrids in the lake for 3 years now and they are already pushing 5 lbs. Man what a fishery this will turn into in the next 3-4 years once the hybrids they stocked this winter get big and fat! biggest one was 4lbs 11 oz. And they are good at swallowing circle hooks :/

Yesterday evening i had no plans on going, but one of my buddies that doesnt fish often begged me to take him out for some time on the water. Had about 5 dozen frisky herring left over so why not? We set sail at 630 and this time it was slow. didnt pick up the first fish until dark. had a bit of a feeding frenzy then catching 6 in about a 20 minute span. Then it went dead. for the next hour we caught 2 more including a big FAT 8 lb norman striper. only kept these 2 for the night and a crappie that decided to jump all over a jerk bait. The hybrid was also 4 lbs 11 oz

according to my logs which held true last night, they slowed down during the new moon phase....i fully expect them to fire back up in the front half of the week!

Will have a bunch of pics shortly. this computer im on will not let me copy the links.

I overheard a well known Lake Norman guide proclaim that there weren't enough striper left in Norman to dirty up a frying pan. He must have a really big frying pan. Thanks for sharing, Pete!

Nice catch Pete. Sometime those well known striper guides have a hard time catching them too! Remember there was a warning issued last week for PCB's in the striper fishery at LKN. Hope you're not pregnant!!! LOL

Nice trip Pete. I hear those Hybrids are some good pulling fish. I think Jordan has a few but never lucked up and hooked up with one. Thanks for the report and pictures.. Way to rub it in (LOL)
