Waccamaw is a River in SC named after some Native American Indians or by some Native American Indians
You know what Im talking about, the crazy little hybrids everyone loves to fish for, especially on Tillery. Does anybody know how they got to be called this? I went out fishing this morning with TilleryJT and the question came up, so I figured I'd put it up to see if anyone knew.
The best I could come up with was, the mastermind behind the release of these fish came up with the idea while he was at the pottery place down at the beach. You know, waccamaw pottery. :D

Waccamaw is a lake near Whiteville N.C. It is just off 74 East. It is about 7 miles across with a maximum depth of about 10 feet. It has many cyprus trees and is consequently dark water. My aunt had a cabin there for many years. I use to take the boat down and fish over a weekend. Lots of redbreast. I saw my first alligator there. A 10 footer swimming across the main lake. What a treat for the kids but we were all scared. Had my first boat ever to sink there. Thunderstorms can cause havoc on Waccamaw since it is wide, shallow and open to the wind. Nice lake but can be treacherous in a major thunderboomer.
