Default 12' crappie rod from shore.

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum , and recently began making concerted efforts to catch crappie. I heard long rods can be beneficial as far as distance , dropping into brush , et al. , so I ordered a combo from BPS. What pointers would you all have for usage of this setup from shore , specifically beneath a bridge. I will use it on Wylie in a cove , and am thinking about fishing from 5' to 12' using floats with 4 pound mono. Overall , will having a longer rod prove advantageous in spot on bait placement without spooking fish , or am I peeing in the wind? Thanks much!!

I don't use my long rods for casting but I have used them from shore every once in a blue moon. Especially when the water is low enough that you can reach out to stumps and brush with it. I believe that the longer rods are more beneficial when it comes to fishing on a boat and spider rigging.
