Where to go and stay suggestions
Hi guys,
Mostly lurk but need some advice. I lived in Pa. for years and crappie fished in northwest and southcentral parts of the state as well as western NY, now I'm in NJ which is mostly crappieless, in fish anyway.
I've been thinking about a spring trip and hoped to get some suggestions as to bodies of water and lodging with docks. I'd like to keep it to Virginia, and eastern NC perhaps a bit further. I'd really appreciate some help, thanks very much.
I just returned from a week at Black lake in northern NY near the St Lawrence, lots of smallies, tons of small bluegills but only a few crappie.
Anyway, thanks in advance and if anyone needs any help with southern NJ let me know, not the greatest freshwater fishing destination here here but lots of good saltwater and the stripers are on the way.

Mike, when in the spring are you talking about? Mar/Apr or Apr/May? If March, I'd just drive on down to Florida and hit the kissimmee chain and any other lakes down there. April/May, ANY lake in the Carolinas should be worth the trip. But I would have several lakes in the Carolinas on my list and make a last minute determination based off the amount of rain, weather, and how the spawn is going. Lots of rain can muddy up the Yadkin chain, and high water can mess up Jordan and any other lake too and make it difficult to fish. I'd put Jordan, High Rock, Wateree and another on my list (maybe Kerr?) and make a decision before I start driving based off mother nature.
Just my thoughts. Hard to call it right now since we don't know how this winter is going to be.

Thanks, not exactly sure of the time yet, in the planning stages. The places I used to fish in Pa. and NY, the time was May so I was assuming earlier down your way. Not sure I want to go as far as Fla but that's a thought and tempting. Kerr was on my list and I'll Google the other water that you mentioned.

stick with kerr, better avg size and a bit closer, plenty of camprounds and hotels, also good turkey huntin up that way if you choose. if your just wanting a good time to catch crappie period. come nov.- jan. fish are schooled tight and some of the biggest fish of the year are taken and seem more abundant. in the spring the fish can be scattered and day to day affects of seasonal rains and cold fronts turn'em on and off, the winter is way more consistent, if i was coming all the way down here just to crappie fish then i would come in the winter.
if you got a place up there that has lots of turkeys and will let me hunt then i will personally hold your hand and send you back home with enough crappie to last you for some time.

Thanks shows you how little I know, I would have figured spring for crappie. Sorry lots of turkey all over Pa and NJ but I no longer hunt and don't have land.

Yeah, winter is definitely better but I just thought you wanted to come in spring or I would have mentioned that little fact. Winter is best but the days are shorter. Thats ok when you can get a limit in an hour or two though.
