When I am striper fishing I troll with the clickers on but do NOT have the reel disengaged. Rather, I have the drag loosened some, but still strong enough to make a good hook set.

thanks thats what i wonted to know what about the hooks are they a good hook for striper
Jackie, I guess hooks are a matter of personal preference. I've read where small circles all the way up to trebles are used for most any kind of fishing, including stripers. Personally I dont use kayle hooks as they seem to be bent half open right out of the pack, but then that's just me. I'd bet alot of folks do use 'em. I use 4/0 or 5/0 regular J hooks made by Eagle Claw when striper fishing but most all I am trying to catch are the bigger fish. Surprisingly even the 1 lbers will swallow those hooks though. All I can tell ya is get out there and give whatever you decide a try. Find some stripers and get a few to bite....then go from there.

2/0 - 4/0 mutu hooks (circle hooks)
why leave clickers on reels when you are going to be watching the rods the whole time?? let circle hook do its job....no need to rare back on a fish when you get the bite with these hooks.
